Obverse: the obverse of the coin depicts the Cuba coat arms, which is surrounded by a laurel wreath. The main part of the coat of arms consists of a shield divided into 3 parts. At the top is a key in the sea between two rocks, with the sun rising above it. This key symbolizes the situation in Cuba between Florida and the Yucatan, the sunrise - birth, rise. The lower left part of the coat of arms is diagonal with blue and white stripes depicting the colonial provinces of Cuba. The lower right part of the panel shows the country's national tree, the royal rogue. On the top of the obverse minted words ''REPUBLICA DE CUBA'' (Eng. Republic of Cuba) and at the bottom minted denomination of the coin ''CINCO PESOS'' (Eng. Five pesos).
Reverse: the reverse of the coin depicts a portrait of the Cuban hero José Martí. He was a poet and professor, a great political activist. He is respected for fighting the Spanish authorities for the freedom and independence of Cuba. In other words, he is called the "Apostle of Cuban independence." At the top of the reverse minted words '' PATRIA Y LIBERTAD'' (Eng. Fatherland and liberty). At the bottom, we can see the engraved weight, purity and the year of mintage "1915".
About the coin: Pesos was the purest gold coin produced in the 20th century. The author of these coins is Charles Edward Barber, the sixth chief designer of the United States Mint.
