About the coin: In 2009, the Central Bank of Ireland issued this commemorative coin to mark the 80th anniversary of the famous Irish “Ploughman” banknote series. The first notes in the series were issued in 1929 and featured a traditional scene of a ploughman and horses, symbolising Ireland’s agricultural heritage. The modern interpretation for the coin was designed by Emmet Mullins. The coin is part of the “Europa Star” programme and was struck from .925 fine silver. It weighs 28.28 g, measures 38.6 mm in diameter, has a Proof finish and a mintage of 15,000 pieces.
