Obverse: depicts the national emblem of Mexico – an eagle standing on a cactus devouring a snake. Around the design appears the inscription ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. This motif represents Mexico’s long-standing national and historical symbolism.
Reverse: features José María Morelos, a key leader of Mexico’s independence movement, shown facing forward. To the left is the denomination CIEN PESOS, to the right the date 1978 and the Mexico Mint mark Mo. At the bottom are the silver weight and purity: PLATA PURA 20 Gr. LEY .720.
About the coin: this 100 pesos coin was minted between 1977 and 1979 at the Mexican Mint (Casa de Moneda de México). It is composed of .720 silver and .280 copper. Out of the total weight of 27.78 g, the coin contains 20 g of pure silver. Although once circulating currency and now demonetized, it remains highly popular among collectors due to its substantial silver content and the historic portrait of Morelos.
