Obverse: The centre of the coin depicts the bell tower of the Collegiate Church of the Holy Cross in Montélimar, the historic administrative centre of the Duchy of Valentinois. To the right are heraldic elements of the Grimaldi dynasty, the orb topped with a cross, motifs from the Montélimar coat of arms and the inscription MONACO. To the left appear the year of issue 2026, the Paris Mint mark and the Chief Engraver's mark. The inscription DUCHÉ DE VALENTINOIS is shown at the bottom.
Reverse: The reverse features the standard design common to all €2 coins: a geographical map of Western Europe positioned on the right side of the coin and extending across both the inner and outer parts. The inscription 2 EURO appears above the map, while the numeral 2 is placed against the background of the Atlantic Ocean. The outer ring contains 12 stars positioned on either side of the map, with vertical lines visually connecting the upper and lower stars.
About the coin: This commemorative €2 coin is dedicated to the Duchy of Valentinois, a historic title closely linked to the Grimaldi dynasty and the history of Monaco. The title Duke of Valentinois was granted to the Grimaldi family by King Louis XIII of France in 1642 and became a symbol of the long-standing ties between Monaco and France. The coin is struck in Proof quality, presented in an official red presentation case, and has a limited mintage of 15,000 pieces.
