Reverse: The main gateway of the Belvedere Palace in Vienna is depicted. Surrounding inscriptions read “1668 LUKAS VON HILDEBRANDT 1745”, “BELVEDERE”, and the year of issue “1968”.
About the coin:
This is a commemorative 25 Schilling silver coin issued in Austria in 1968 to mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Baroque architect Lukas von Hildebrandt. The coin is struck in .800 silver (20% copper), weighs 13 g, and has a diameter of 30.5 mm. Lukas von Hildebrandt (1668–1745) was one of Austria’s most important Baroque architects, best known as the designer of the Belvedere Palace in Vienna. The coin was engraved by Kurt Bodlak. The edge is smooth with the inscription “FUENFUNDZWANZIG SCHILLING **”. The coin was demonetized on 28 February 2002.
