Obverse: The obverses of the coins reflect Bulgaria’s national identity and historical heritage. Lower-denomination coins feature the Madara Rider, one of the oldest symbols of Bulgarian statehood, carved into rock in the 8th century and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It symbolizes victory, strength, authority, and the continuity of the state. Higher-denomination coins, including the 1 and 2 euro coins, depict Ivan Vazov, the national poet, writer, and founder of modern Bulgarian literature. The country name Bulgaria, the year of issue, and other mandatory national elements appear alongside the main motifs.
Reverse: The reverse shows the common design used on all 2 euro coins: a geographical map of Western Europe positioned on the right side and extending across both the inner and outer areas. The inscription 2 EURO appears above the map, while the numeral 2 is set against the background of the Atlantic Ocean. The outer ring features 12 stars placed on both sides of the map, with vertical lines visually connecting the upper and lower stars.
