About the coin: these Uruguayan 5 peso gold coins were minted at the French Mint of Paris. It depicts the portrait of the Uruguayan hero, Jose Gervas Artigo, who lived between 1764 and 1850. He is often called the father of Uruguayan Independence. The words spelt out in the coin, which runs into the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, are an "eastern" term for the country's location on the eastern bank of the Uruguay River, which borders the Argentine border.
