Obverse: the coin features a map of the European Union in the centre of the obverse, decorated with twelve stars and the denomination "10 EURO". The bottom of the map shows the name of the issuing country in three languages 'BELGIE - BELGIQUE - BELGIEN' and the year '2009'.
Reverse: Portrait of Erasmus of Rotterdam after a painting by H.Holbein. The left side also shows two caricatures by Holbein. These drawings are in old editions of Praise of Folly.
