Obverse: a crowned set of the coats of arms of the nine provinces is struck in the center of the obverse, which divides the denomination. The coats of arms of Antwerp, East Flanders, West Flanders, and Flemish Brabant appear on the top row. The middle row contains the arms of Henao, Liège, and Limburg. The bottom row contains the arms of Luxembourg and Namur. The coats of arms are embossed with the designer's initial letters and the bilingual (French and Dutch) legend '50 FR BELGIQUE:BELGIE'.
Reverse: the reverse of the coin shows the head of King Leopold III facing left. His name 'LEOPOLD III' is embossed on the top and the year of issue and the name of the designer '1939 RAU' on the bottom.
