Obverse: The obverse of the coin depicts Pope Benedict XVI th facing to the left, around a semicircular superimposed legend BENEDICTI XVI P.M. AETATIS ANNO LXXX CITTÀ DEL VATICANO. Also on the left side of the coin is an indictment mint this coin emblem R, the coin mintage year 2007 and coin engraver's initials M.C.C. INC. On the right side of the obverse design of the coin is inscribed and name of the author LONGO. The outer ring of the coin depicts the twelve stars symbolizing the European Union flag.

Reverse: Regular 2€ coin obverse image of the face value.
