Obverse: the obverse of the coin depicts the Roman Catholic priest of Mexico and the leader of the Mexican Independence War, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. The inscription "DOS Y MEDIO PESOS" (eng. Two and half pesos) and the year of minting the coin are dotted below the semicircle.
Reverse: the reverse depicts the Mexican coat of arms - Eagle on a cactus and in snape keeping the snake. The inscription "ESTADOS UNIDO MEXICANOS" (eng. United States of Mexico) is displayed around the coat of arms.
