Obverse: The 1 and 2 euro coins feature the emblem of the Order of Malta – an eight-pointed cross. The 10, 20 and 50 cent coins depict a shield bearing a heraldic representation of the Maltese flag and a mural crown symbolizing Malta’s fortifications and statehood. The 1, 2 and 5 cent coins show the altar of the prehistoric Mnajdra temple, built around 3600 BC.
