Obverse: The obverse of the coin features a straw garden – a traditional three-dimensional geometric structure made of interconnected triangular forms. At the bottom, the inscription LATVIJA and the year 2024 are shown.
Reverse: The reverse of the coin features the common design of all 2 euro coins: a geographical map of Western Europe positioned on the right side, covering both the inner and outer parts. The inscription 2 EURO appears at the top of the map, and the number 2 is placed against the background of the Atlantic Ocean. The outer ring contains 12 stars, with vertical lines visually connecting the upper and lower stars.
About the coin: The coin is dedicated to traditional straw gardens, an ancient craft of the Baltic region also practiced in Latvia. These hanging ornaments are made from straw and displayed in homes during festive occasions, symbolizing harmony, the order of the world, and prosperity. The tradition is recognized as intangible cultural heritage and is included in the UNESCO list.
