Obverse: The set consists of three 2005 San Marino euro coins – 2 cents, 20 cents and 2 euros. The 2 cent coin depicts the Statue of Liberty of San Marino, the 20 cent coin features Saint Marinus holding the city in his hand, based on a painting from the school of Guercino, while the 2 euro coin depicts Palazzo Pubblico, the government palace of San Marino. The coins also feature the year 2005, the inscription SAN MARINO, the R mint mark of the Rome Mint and the 12 stars of the European Union.
Reverse: The reverse of the coins features the common European Union design used at the time for each respective euro denomination. The 2 cent coin depicts Europe in relation to the world, the 20 cent coin features a map of the European Union member states, while the 2 euro coin shows a map of Europe. The designs also feature 12 stars symbolising the European Union.
About the coins: The 2005 San Marino euro coin set is a special three-coin issue consisting of the 2 cent, 20 cent and 2 euro denominations. The coins are presented in original thematic packaging dedicated to Saint Francis Gate, one of the historic entrances to the old city of San Marino. The shape and design of the packaging resemble the stone arch of the gate. All three coins belong to the first series of San Marino euro coin designs, used from 2002 to 2016. The mintage of this set is 140,000 pieces.
