Obverse: The obverse depicts a stylized human portrait with a book, symbolizing knowledge and education, with a geometric network in the background representing cooperation and connections between countries. At the bottom appears the inscription ERASMUS PROGRAMME LATVIA along with the years 1987–2022 marking the anniversary.
Reverse: The reverse features the common design of all 2 euro coins: a geographical map of Western Europe positioned on the right side, covering both the inner and outer parts. The inscription 2 EURO is placed above the map, and the number 2 appears over the Atlantic Ocean background. The outer ring shows 12 stars connected by vertical lines.
About the coin: This coin commemorates the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus programme. Launched in 1987, it is one of the most important European Union initiatives promoting mobility of students, teachers and youth, as well as international cooperation in education. Over the decades, millions of participants have had the opportunity to study and gain experience abroad, strengthening cultural ties and European identity. The Latvian issue is part of a joint euro area release.
