Obverse: The set consists of eight Finnish euro coins ranging from 1 cent to 2 euros. The 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent coins depict the Finnish heraldic lion, reproducing a motif created by sculptor Heikki Häiväoja. The €1 coin depicts two flying swans, while the €2 coin features cloudberry flowers and berries. The coins also bear the year of issue 2004 and the 12 stars of the European Union.
Reverse: The reverse of the coins features the common European design used at the time for each euro denomination. The 1, 2 and 5 cent coins depict Europe in relation to the world, while the 10, 20 and 50 cent and €1 and €2 coins feature the geographical motifs of the first common euro coin series, depicting the European Union member states of the time. The designs also incorporate the 12 stars symbolising the European Union.
About the coins: Finnish euro coin set contains all eight standard euro denominations. Finland selected three national motifs for its euro coins, reflecting the country's history and nature. The heraldic lion motif had been used on Finnish coins long before the introduction of the euro, including on the 1 markka coins issued from 1964 to 2001. The €1 design featuring two flying swans was created by Pertti Mäkinen and was originally submitted to a coin design competition marking the 80th anniversary of Finnish independence. The cloudberry motif on the €2 coin was designed by Raimo Heino. The 2004 coins belong to Finland's early euro coin series, first issued in 1999.
