Obverse: featuring Kemal Ataturk, the first president of the Republic of Turkey. In the top of the coin are minted the words "HAKiMiYET MiLLETiNDiR" (eng. Dominance is the nation) and the name of the Turkish capital "ANKARA".
Reverse: the legend "TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ" (eng. Republic of Turkey) is engraved on the reverse of the coin in the center of a wreath of oak leaves and rye bells. A little below is the year of establishment of the Turkish Republic "1923", followed by the two digits which, when added to the year of the founding of the Republic of Turkey (1923), give the actual year of minting (Example 1923 + 47 = 1970).
