Obverse: the obverse of the coin depicts the former King Juan Carlos I of Spain. The portrait is surrounded by the king's commander, JUAN CARLOS I, and his post, REY DE ESPANA. The year of issue of the coin is "2009" below.
Reverse: the reverse of the coin depicts a reproduced bust of King Felipe II, based on a portrait made by Titian. On the left is the coat of arms showing the entrance to the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo del Escorial. The reverse also features the king's name "FELIPE II" and the coin's face value "200 EURO".
About the coin: in 2004, coinciding with the enlargement of the European Union, several Mint Houses of the old continent joined the European numismatic program, coining collectible coins with a common logo.
