Obverse: The centre of the coin features a right-facing portrait of Russian Emperor Alexander III. The surrounding inscription reads „Б.М. АЛЕКСАНДРЪ III ИМПЕРАТОРЪ И САМОДЕРЖ. ВСЕРОСС.“, meaning “By the Grace of God Alexander III, Emperor and Autocrat of All Russia”. Below is the inscription „КОРОНОВАНЪ ВЪ МОСКВѢ 1883“ – “Crowned in Moscow in 1883”. The portrait was created by medallist Leopold Steinman.
Reverse: The denomination „РУБЛЬ“ appears at the top. The centre depicts the regalia of the Russian Empire – the Great Imperial Crown, orb and sceptre resting on a cushion. The composition is surrounded by a wreath of laurel and oak branches tied with a ribbon at the bottom.
