Obverse: The set consists of eight 2014 Dutch circulation euro coins, ranging from 1 cent to 2 euros. The national side of the coins features a portrait of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands. Beside the portrait are the inscription WILLEM-ALEXANDER KONING DER NEDERLANDEN, the year of issue 2014, as well as the marks of the Royal Dutch Mint and the mint master. The coin design was created by Erwin Olaf.
Reverse: The reverse of the coins features the common European Union design corresponding to each euro denomination. The 1, 2 and 5 cent coins depict Europe in relation to the world, the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins depict the European continent, while the 1 and 2 euro coins feature a geographical map of Europe. The outer part of the coins bears 12 stars symbolising the European Union.
About the coins: The official 2014 Netherlands euro coin set was issued in BU quality and is presented in special Royal Dutch Mint packaging. The set belongs to a series dedicated to Dutch World Heritage, with the 2014 edition devoted to the Defence Line of Amsterdam. This approximately 135-kilometre-long historic ring of fortifications around Amsterdam was constructed around the turn of the 20th century to protect the city using a system of controlled flooding. The Defence Line of Amsterdam is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The packaging provides information about this important example of Dutch cultural and military engineering heritage.
