Obverse: the obverse side depicts a temperate cultural landscape, illustrated by stylized edges of cultivated land and forest. The image of the hare in the center of the picture is a common sight in an open temperate landscape. The seasonal variation of this type of climate is embodied by the autumn oak branch. The silhouette depicts mixed deciduous forests characterizing temperate climates. The obverse of the coin was designed by Peter Lasch of Berlin. The reverse of the coin throughout this series was designed by Stefanie Radtke of Leipzig.
Reverse: the reverse shows the eagle, the words "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND", value and denomination, 2019, twelve European stars and the mint mark "A" (Berlin), "D" (Munich), "F" (Stuttgart), "G" (Karlsruhe) or "J" (Hamburg), depending on where the coin was struck.

About the coin: the German government has decided to mint 5 euro coin named “Temperate zone” with a green polymer ring, which is expected to be issued in 2019 September. This coin is the third in a series of five "Earth Climate Zones". The "temperate climate zone" will consist of two different copper-nickel alloys and a transparent polymer ring. The coins will be put into circulation at face value 5 euro by the Deutsche Bundesbank. For collector coins, the issue price will be higher than their face value.
