Obverse: The set consists of five 2007 German commemorative €2 coins, struck at all five German mints and identified by the mint marks A, D, F, G and J. The centre of the coin depicts the open Treaty of Rome document bearing the signatures of the six founding states of the European Communities. In the background is the stylised paving pattern of Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome, based on Michelangelos design. The inner section of the coin bears the inscriptions RÖMISCHE VERTRÄGE 50 JAHRE, EUROPA, BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND and the year 2007, together with the corresponding mint mark. The outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European Union.
Reverse: The reverse features the design characteristic of all €2 coins: a geographical map of Western Europe positioned on the right side of the coin and extending across both the inner and outer sections. The inscription 2 EURO appears above the map, while the numeral 2 is set against the Atlantic Ocean. The outer ring features 12 stars positioned on both sides of the map, with vertical lines visually connecting the upper and lower stars.
About the coins: The 2007 commemorative €2 coin was issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome. The treaties were signed on 25 March 1957 by representatives of Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and West Germany and became one of the most important milestones in the development of todays European Union. The anniversary coin was the first joint commemorative €2 coin issued by the euro-area countries using a common principal design. In Germany it was officially issued on 25 March 2007, with a total German mintage of 30 million coins. The set contains coins from all five German mints: A – Berlin, D – Munich, F – Stuttgart, G – Karlsruhe and J – Hamburg.
