Obverse: The set consists of five 2012 German commemorative €2 coins, struck at all five German mints and identified by the mint marks A, D, F, G and J. The centre of the coin features a globe in the form of the euro symbol, representing the importance of the euro in Europe and throughout the world. Surrounding it are stylised images of people, a ship, factories, wind turbines and other objects symbolising society, trade, industry, energy and economic activity. The inscription BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND appears at the top, the years 2002 2012 at the bottom, and the corresponding mint mark beside the main motif. The outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European Union.
Reverse: The reverse features the design characteristic of all €2 coins: a geographical map of Western Europe positioned on the right side of the coin and extending across both the inner and outer sections. The inscription 2 EURO appears above the map, while the numeral 2 is set against the Atlantic Ocean. The outer ring features 12 stars positioned on both sides of the map, with vertical lines visually connecting the upper and lower stars.
About the coins: The 2012 commemorative €2 coin was issued to mark the tenth anniversary of the introduction of euro banknotes and coins. Euro cash entered circulation in twelve countries on 1 January 2002. The anniversary coin was a joint issue of the euro-area countries, with the same principal motif used by the participating countries and adapted with the country name and other national markings. The design was created by Austrian artist Helmut Andexlinger, whose proposal was selected through a public online vote. The set contains coins from all five German mints: A – Berlin, D – Munich, F – Stuttgart, G – Karlsruhe and J – Hamburg.
