Obverse: The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing right. The Queen is depicted wearing a tiara. Around the portrait is the inscription ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA (translated: Elizabeth II, Queen by the Grace of God). This is the second portrait of Queen Elizabeth II used on Canadian coinage. The obverse was designed by Arnold Machin.
Reverse: The reverse of the coin depicts a lynx walking to the left. At the top is the denomination 25 CENTS, and at the bottom the inscription CANADA 1867–1967, marking the centennial of Canadian Confederation. The reverse design was created by Alex Colville.
