Obverse: the obverse of the coin depicts the coat of arms of Mauritius supported by the dodo bird and a deer. Below the coat of arms is a coastal landscape with ships and mountains. Around the coin are the inscriptions “MAURITIUS” and “ONE THOUSAND RUPEES”.
Reverse: the reverse features the emblem of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce & Industry surrounded by the inscription “MAURITIUS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY”. The lower part marks the 150th anniversary with the date “25th January 2000”.
About the coin: this gold 1000 rupees coin was issued in 2000 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The chamber is one of the oldest economic institutions in the region and played an important role in the development of trade and industry on the island.
