Obverse: The set consists of five 2015 German commemorative €2 coins, struck at all five German mints and identified by the mint marks A, D, F, G and J. The centre of the coin depicts a crowd of people in front of the Brandenburg Gate, one of the most important symbols of German unity. On the left, the inscription 25 JAHRE DEUTSCHE EINHEIT and the year 2015 appear in an arc, while on the right is the slogan WIR SIND EIN VOLK. The design also features the German country code D, the corresponding mint mark and the initials of the designer Bernd Wendhut. The outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European Union.
Reverse: The reverse features the design characteristic of all €2 coins: a geographical map of Western Europe positioned on the right side of the coin and extending across both the inner and outer sections. The inscription 2 EURO appears above the map, while the numeral 2 is set against the Atlantic Ocean. The outer ring features 12 stars positioned on both sides of the map, with vertical lines visually connecting the upper and lower stars.
About the coins: The 2015 German commemorative €2 coin was issued to mark the 25th anniversary of German reunification. The German Democratic Republic officially joined the Federal Republic of Germany on 3 October 1990, and this date became German Unity Day. In the coin design, the Brandenburg Gate and the people gathered in front of it symbolise the peaceful reunification of the country and the role of its citizens in this historic process. The inscription WIR SIND EIN VOLK means We are one people and recalls one of the most important slogans of the German reunification period. The coin was designed by Bernd Wendhut. The set contains coins from all five German mints: A – Berlin, D – Munich, F – Stuttgart, G – Karlsruhe and J – Hamburg.
