Obverse: the obverse of the coin bar features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II”, “TOKELAU 2022” and the face value “50 DOLLARS”. Despite its rectangular bar shape, the stated denomination and Tokelau as the issuing authority give it the status of legal tender.
Reverse: the reverse depicts Europa from Greek mythology riding a bull, the form that, according to the myth, was assumed by the god Zeus. Below the image are the inscription “GODDESS EUROPA”, the silver purity designation “Fine Silver 999.9”, an individual serial number and the weight “1000 g”.
About the coin: this impressive 1-kilogram investment silver coin bar was issued on behalf of Tokelau in 2022 and is struck from 999.9 fine silver. It measures approximately 124 × 66 mm and is 12 mm thick. The piece combines the characteristics of an investment silver bar with the legal-tender status of a 50-dollar coin. Its design is dedicated to one of the best-known stories of Greek mythology – Europa and Zeus. According to the legend, Zeus transformed himself into a white bull, persuaded Europa to climb onto his back and carried her across the sea to Crete. Europa's name later became the basis for the name of the European continent. Each bar bears an individual serial number, making it both a precious-metal investment product and a distinctive collectible. The 2022 issue has a limited mintage of only 3,000 pieces.
