Obverse: The obverse features the 2016 Lunar symbol – a monkey. At the bottom, the inscription reads “Year of the Monkey”. The design also includes the Chinese character for the Year of the Monkey, as well as the mint mark “P”, indicating the Australian mint The Perth Mint.
Reverse: The reverse depicts Queen Elizabeth II, who is also the Monarch of Australia. At the top the words “ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA” are engraved, and at the bottom it reads “1/2 oz 9999 Ag 2016 50 CENTS”.
About the coin: The Perth Mint of Australia releases a coin every year dedicated to the signs of the Chinese Lunar calendar (Lunar). This calendar has been celebrated since 2600 BC, and it is still believed that the animal sign influences the personality of those born under it.
